And a teenage girl who may be the world’s last hope. ![]() ![]() ![]() The events of the novels are spaced over 16 years, and although there are familiar characters that appear, each novel tells a self-contained story. The novels are set in a near-future world dominated by corporations and ubiquitous computing, after a limited World War III. The Sprawl trilogy shares this setting with Gibson's short stories " Johnny Mnemonic" (1981), " Burning Chrome" (1982), and " New Rose Hotel" (1984), and events and characters from the stories appear in or are mentioned at points in the trilogy. The novels are all set in the same fictional future, and are subtly interlinked by shared characters and themes (which are not always readily apparent). The Sprawl trilogy (also known as the Neuromancer, Cyberspace, or Matrix trilogy) is William Gibson's first set of novels, composed of Neuromancer (1984), Count Zero (1986), and Mona Lisa Overdrive (1988). ![]() Three cyberpunk novels (1984–1988) by William Gibson Sprawl trilogy Author ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() She lives in another time period, yes, we get it, but STILL. I like to imagine that is the author's goal at this point, and if so, they've achieved it with flying colors. I have to say though, I really dislike Ada so far. I really, really hope the next book has more plot and a bit less of the steaminess that this one had. That being said, the plot IS interesting and unique in it's own right, and I do like it, but it felt greatly overshadowed by the sex. I struggled to get through it at times, and almost stopped entirely when a week had gone by without finishing it because I could only bear to listen to so much of it at once without eye rolling. I promise I'm not fickle, it just felt like over half of the book was sex scenes and the plot was just a side story manufactured so there was a reason for them to happen so often. It felt like they were nearly constant, and that's coming from someone that typically wants more of such scenes in their romance novels. I didn't think that I would ever review a romance and feel like there were actually too many "intimate" scenes, but it really did feel that way with this book. I think the book overall is around a 3, just because of what I'm about to say. I can't change my rating for some reason and it's not the correct number of stars, so just ignore it. ![]() I warn thee brutally honest review incoming. ![]() ![]() ![]() The outcome is never in doubt, but short chapters (most just two or three pages) and lots of action will easily keep readers’ attention.
